System requirements for installation

  • BlackBerry Device Software 4.2 and up, excluding BlackBerry 10.
  • Intel® compatible 1 GHz or higher processor
  • 512 MB of RAM
  • USB 1.1 or higher USB port
  • Screen resolution of 1024x768 or greater
  • 100 MB of free hard disk space for typical installation
  • Windows® XP SP3 or later, Windows Vista®, Windows 7 or Windows 8
  • Microsoft® .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 or an active Internet connection
  • iTunes version 7.7.1 or later, or Windows Media® Player version 10 or later, for music synchronization

Backup data

  1. On your computer, open the BlackBerry Desktop Software.
  2. Connect the device to a computer using a USB cable.
  3. In the BlackBerry Desktop Software, click Device.
  4. Click Back up.
  5. Click Full Backup.
  6. Click Back up.
  7. Click Close once the backup is complete.

Restore data

  1. On your computer, open the BlackBerry Desktop Software.
  2. Connect your device to your computer using a USB cable.
  3. In BlackBerry Desktop Manager, click Device.
  4. Click Restore.
  5. Select the backup file.
  6. Click All device data and settings. To restore data to built-in media storage, select the Files saved on my built-in media storage checkbox.
  7. If the backup file is encrypted, enter the password and click Restore.

Transfer data to a new device

  1. On your computer, open the BlackBerry Desktop Software.
  2. Connect the old device to the computer using a USB cable.
  3. In BlackBerry Desktop Manager, click Device.
  4. Select Switch Devices.
  5. Choose the old device from the list.
  6. Check the information you want to transfer such as Data or Third party applications.
    • Click Next.
    • When prompted, connect the new BlackBerry device to the computer using the USB cable.
    • Click Next.
    • When the transfer is complete, the Desktop Software will alert you to disconnect the device.

    Set up calendar and contacts

    1. Open BlackBerry Desktop Software.
    2. Connect your device to your computer using a USB cable.
    3. Click Organizer.
    4. Click the Configure Settings button.
    5. Select an app and click Setup.
    6. Select a desktop organizer app and click Next.
    7. Select sync options and click Next.
    8. If applicable, select Microsoft Outlook options, and click Next.
    9. Click Finish.
    10. Repeat steps 4 through 8 for the remaining BlackBerry smartphone organizer apps.
    11. Click OK to close the Select Device application window.
    12. Make sure at least one type of organizer data has the check box is selected and click the Sync button.
